I have a 65 fastback with the lowered A's in the front to shelby specs, and GT rear leafs. I am seeing a bunch of 65's with 17" rims now. Is it possible to fit these 17's without any modification in the front and rears? Does anyone have any experience with this match? I really like the way they look, but don't want to jump through a bunch on mods to make it happen..Thanks, Brian

I have a shelby front with 620, and 4 leaf rear. Also Granada fronts and Versailles rear. I do not see my combination on the chart. Is my setup an odd one? Also how hard is it to wrap the wells? And will it mess up the paint?

From what I've seen posted here, 17's are easier to fit than 16's. Backspacing is the key here, but yes you can roll the fenders, but I would try to get the correct size and not mess with the lip.------------------ William M&M# 4256 MCA# 64831 68 Coupe 289 C4 3:55's/Trac-Lok

Is the backspacing an option with the rim, or a spacer you insert inbetween the rim, and tire?

You order the wheels with the amount of backspacing you need. You can push them out with a spacer but not back. I have also heard 17s are easier to fit than 16s but I think this only applies to the front since the 17s slide over the suspension parts rather than bind against them.[This message has been edited by JAAZZY (edited 09-19-2006).]

It's how many inches it is from the lip of the wheel to the mounting point on the wheel. In other words, if you have a 4.25 B/S on a 7" wide wheel, you have 4 and 1/4 inches of rim from the mounting point to the bead. Make sense, sometimes I confuse myself. EDIT: Stay away from spacers if at all possible, they are not the best thing ever invented.------------------ William M&M# 4256 MCA# 64831 68 Coupe 289 C4 3:55's/Trac-Lok [This message has been edited by 68 Coop (edited 09-19-2006).]

I have a versaille rear end in my car, with GT springs. I put 17 x 9 Cragars on the back with 5 1/2" backspacing and P245 40 tires.I had to make 2 modifications. 1. Square up the front of the inner wheel well. If you look under the car the inner fender curves toward the outside of the car as it goes toward the front of the car. I pulled the rear seat and the side covers and you can get to it real easy to make the inner fender follow the springs all the way to the front and then make a square corner. 2. I rolled the fender lip in. Not sure I would have had to, it was really close to making it - but wanted to make sure. I'm positive P235 would have made it without rubbing. For Pics http://mustangsandmore.50megs.com/MembersPics/ekbeanctr.html The front has 17 x 8 Cragars with P235 40's on it. ------------------ Red Fire Clearcoat 65 Fastback, 408W. ekbeanctr - do the fronts that have 17 x 8 Cragars with P235 40's on it fit without mods? I have shelby drop in front, but don't want to modify the body really.. Sweet ride by the way!!

Thanks for the compliment on the car. Yes the front fit no problems. I did have to take the wheels in to a machine shop because they just barely touched the caliper/ I have SSBC Disc Brakes on the front. They machined a 1/4" notch around the face of the wheel that fits up against the rotor. Ernie ------------------ Red Fire Clearcoat 65 Fastback, 408W. SSBC is the initials for the brake company, Stainless Steel Brake Co.
