on a c4 auto, trans, the oil seal boot in the back that sticks out over the drive shaft do i have to take off the tail section to replace it or does it slip in i have never done this before thanks sal

I believe that you are refering to the rear tailhousing seal. You do not need to remove the tailhousing,only the driveshaft. The seal has a thin metal flange where it contacts the tailhousing. Use a flat chisel between the tailhousing and this flange, and the seal should pop out fairly easily.The new seal is installed by carefully tapping the flange with a hammer. The shop manual shows a special tool to do this, but it`s not really neccasary. Most replacement seals won`t have the boot sticking out the back, but will work just fine.

SO THE OLD STYLE USED TO STICK OUT PAST THE TAIL END OF THE TRANNY LIKE A RUBBER BOOT THE NEW ONES ARE JUST A ROUND SEAL FLAT AT THE END OF THE TRANNY THANKS AGIAN SAL

Prepare to get your floor covered in tranny fluid. There's a special plug you can get, but a spray can cap and duct tape works pretty good too. Just make sure the cap doesn't have a small pin hole in the top.

its not full i had it rebuilt and just got it back that when i noticed the seal missing the rear seal is there but the shft imput boot that sticks out is missing the trans, shop doesnt know what i mean
