Hey guys I have a 68 sprint that came with a J code 302 and a 3 speed stick. The car was pretty nicely optioned with air conditioning , console, power steering and a black vinyl roof. The car was totally original when I got it and is a nice rust free Georgia car...Since I've had it I've kept the modifications strictly bolt on so they were easily reversed...Now I'm going to swap in a healthy 351 windsor(400-450hp)with the intent to do some drag racing and I'm worried about tweaking the body without some frame connectors...What's everyone think? Will the connectors hurt the value of the car or should I even worry about it? ------------------

I would install them, and when/if you want to go back to original, just carefully cut them off. You will only have to respray it with whatever it's coated with now, and no one will ever be the wiser to it. Nice car by the way. ------------------ William M&M# 4256 MCA# 64831 68 Coupe 289 C4 3:55's/Trac-Lok

Kind of a tough call. That IS a nice original though the hood scoop and stripe is Cobra Jet.But to paraphrase someone's statement: It's your car dammit, do what makes you happy! Seeing as it has some nice interior options ie AC, Console, would maybe try to keep the interior orig. Am sure you're going to lose the 3 speed. It's possible to add subframe connectors and keep them not too conspicuous. Looks like you 've already added some spring help. 302 3 speed is uncommon. That is a VERY nice 68! Yes the scoop and stripe are cobra jet stuff as I was thinking of turning it into a 428 clone when I had it painted...These are removable though...The frame connectors(hadn't decided on which type)will be pretty much permanant once welded on...As soon as I got the car home some 16 years ago I swapped the 3 speed for a 4 speed the first weekend I'm trying to keep it as original looking as possible but make it a pretty respectable muscle car as well.------------------ 68 J-Code,Sprint,306 4 speed,4.11s 13.69@101............... 66 coupe 289 4 speed, 3.20 cruiser http://mustangsandmore.50megs.com/MembersPics/mustangboy.html http://mustangsandmore.50megs.com/MembersPics/mustangboy2.html

If you do that much HP, you need the connectors. So it's a moot point really. There ARE bolt on connectors that could be unbolted, but I don't know how good they are. Good luck. In my humble opinion, subframe connectors would have no impact of the value of the car. I'd say the same if someone wanted to put a second torque box on a 67, or a dual MC on a 65-66. They are simply intelligent things to have.

Go for it!!! These car bring far more pleasure from building and driving them how you want. Then holding onto to them JUST for their value $$$. Now if it's a real one of a kind or so ,then you should sell,or keep it 100% orginal for a later sell. A big lesson I've learned this summer is the market will only bring so much $$$ no matter what you do. There are buyers for any type of car stock or other wise. And they all want to buy low and sell high. ------------------ oddly obsessed with big scoops on little Mustangs HOOD HACKERS DELIGHT! My Pics 13.563 @ 108.64

Fast is right, for a coupe especially, there is an upper limit unless you've got something really rare. Have fun with it! ------------------ 68 coupe, red on black. Full restoration completed summer 2006. 347 stroker, 425 hp, 450 tq http://mustangsandmore.50megs.com/MembersPics/kinger44.html
