Anybody know of a reason why this wouldn't work? I know you have to drill a hole for the cable but I don't know of anything that would stop this swap from being done.

Yes it will work but the mounting is different, the whole pedal being inside. Contemplating EFI in my 68, got a 70 pedal to use the EFI cable instead of the homely later pedal. You'll have to cap off the current hole and make a smaller one for the cable.
