i have a 68 coupe and the previous owner pulled the 6 cillider and put in a V8 they pretty much messed everything up but now the engine went out. i would like to put in a newer engine (like 1990 and up) if possible. what engine would fit without major alterations?------------------ '68 Stang

assuming that it has a 302 now, any year model 302 will work without hardly any mods. now if you get into the injected computer model, that is a little different story. even they will work easily if you stick with the carb. good luck------------------ mike r racing is real everything else is just a game. 81 capri-302-7.25 @93mph 1/8 1.54 60ft 50 % of the fun dragracing is meeting people who will give you the shirt off their back to wipe the grease off your hands. I have a 351W four barrel in my 68. When it came time for headers it was really tight. I ended up asking for help from ScottH. He was able to make it fit when I couldn't. If I were changing the engine, I think I would go with a late model injected 302 (5.0L). I used to regularly get about 25 mpg on my 87GT and I have a rather heavy right foot.Craig

A couple of thing to watch for when comparing late model 302 or 5.0 to an early 289 is that the 5.0 have a different imbalance than the 289. Meaning that some of the items will not transfer between motors. Flywheels or flexplates, harmonic balaancers, water pumpsare some. Also if you have a manual trans, the late 5.0 blocks do not have the provisions for the clutch linkage on the rear of the block.Mike
