Neither of the rear brake lights work unless either left or right turn signal is activated, once turn signal is off brakes go out. I disconnected the wiring in the trunk and ran a wire from the brake switch to the rear wiring harness in the trunk and the brakes work when the brake pedal is pressed so I know the brake light assemblies are ok. Please help.

Usually wierd stuff like this is related to a bad turn signal switch. Had the same thing happen to me. Mine's a '66 so it might be different for later years.

It certainly sounds like a turn signal switch issue. I had one signal out and couldn't figure out what was going on. I traced all of the wiring to make sure it wasn't grounding out. Nope. I even replaced a pigtail thinking the problem was there. Nope. Replaced the switch and it works perfect.

It's an easy fix. Just pay close attention to the colored wires on the new switch. Sometimes they're not all the same.
