I am replacing my cluster with a 6 gauge cluster, and was hoping someone has a basic diagram (cluster only) showing what each wire is in the cluster for a 65 with basic interior options. Basically the basic cluster not the 5 gauge GT cluster. I have a ford diagram that shows the whole car, and a ford manual that stops at the cluster, but would like to label every wire before pulling them out.

Thanks,
Brian

See if this helps, it's set for the 68's, but just go to the main page for your year.

This might help. It's a diagram for the '66. There are a few issues to worry about though when switching over. The '65 & '66s have different oil sending units, plus there something different with the voltage gauge. Oh, and you've got a different turn signal setup...2 seperate signals.

Have fun.

Not a problem. I did the switchover myself, but I didn't mess with the oil pressure gauge or voltmeter. I've got aftermarket gauges that I trust more. The turn signals on the standard gauge cluster has two wires going into one socket. I remember having to find an old light socket and seperate the two wires...one for left, one for right. The wiring diagram should tell you which is which.

Ed,
Sounds like when I get around to putting in my AutoMeter Gauges in the plastic gauge holder & 66 bezel I'll maybe need to pick your brain about the wiring. I've already seen that I have a MAJOR rats nest under the dash from when I pulled the heater. Can't wait to see what I find behind the existing instrument cluster since they switched mine from a stock 65 to 66 cluster...

Brian,
Wanted to ask what type of 6 gage cluster you picked up for your car? What kind is it, what is the quality like?

Thanks.
Richard.

rmousir - sorrry for the late reply. I went with a 6 gauge bezel from delta bay mustangs, and it looks like it will work ok. Looks like I may have to bend my tabs down a bit to match the holes in the bezel, and it looks kind of flimsy, but once in, I think it will look great. Turns out that a 65 and 66 dash have the bottom two screw tabs in different angles. I have 3 65's and all are straight up and down, but the 66 Tom at Delta Bay Mustangs is looking at has about a 45 degree bend.. Strange..
