Hi!

(68, 289 edelbrock carb)

The valve on the passenger side rocker cover, with the line in it that sucks and goes to the carb leaks oil There is always a small dribble of oil onto the exhaust manifold, which gives a nice classic car smell!!

Its a valve (think its a PCV?) with a weighted plate in it and that sits ( a little losely) into a breather cap that has a line to the carb (vacuum is good).

So question: Do I just correct the lose problem with tape, or silicon or something? Should I be worried that there is so much oil there in the first place.

Thanks guys, be lost without this forum.

(I did a search, but I can't seem to find my exact issue)

Yes, that is the PCV Valve. You can order a replacement PCV Valve and you can also order the seal that goes in the top of the valve cover. National Parts Depot (NPD) carries both items. This should solve your oil drip and smell.

Thanks very much, I'll add that to my list next time I do an order. For the moment then I'll tape it up to seal it a bit better. Glad to know its not anything bad

My next order keeps getting larger and larger.

Dave, you need anything from NPD? I'm thinking about making about a $1500 order for the 68.

Sam,
Thank you for the offer. But I don't think we need anything at the moment. But that could aways change. Sounds like you may need some help installing parts shortly. Have tools. Will travel.

You can buy a PCV about anywhere, get a Motorcraft brand.

The PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilator) is there to draw the gases inside your engine in to the base of the carb where the gases are burned away. Fresh air enters the crankcase either through your oil filler cap, if it has a filter in it. On later engines it went through the air cleaner and then a hose from the air cleaner went to the opposite valve cover. There is a small filter on there too. Whichever one you have, it likely needs to be replaced also. If it is in the oil filler cap, just buy a new cap.

HTH,
Mike
