i converted from a inline 6 to 289 v8 my water temp gauge , the probe that goes into the intake manifold is about 2" long it bottoms out before i can screw in the fitting to hold it am i stupid or is there an adapter that i can screw in to give me about 1/2 more space like 3/8 female to 3/8 male it must be tapered inside so it doesnt leak thanks for you time im almost done sal

I assume you are refering to an aftermarket temp gauge, correct? If so, yes, you will need a special fitting that has pipe threads for the manifold end, and has a step inside the other end for the gauges end to fit into properly. This fittings should not be too hard to find, I would imagine that any good auto parts store with a decent Weatherhead assortment should have one, as should any speed shop that sells aftermarket gauges.
