On a 66 Mustang, Has anyone ever had success in removing 20 year old overspray, buffing out scratches, polishing, and re-applying black stripes to Rocker Panel Molding. Can painstripper be used to remove the paint? Do you think it would melt the material? If you can remove scratches, what do you use? Thanks for your time.

Rocker panel moldings are anodized so in order to remove the scratches you'll need to have the anodizing stripped, then polish, then re-anodize, and then paint. Its a lot of effort, but worth it compared to the current crop of repro moldings out there.

Anodizing is relativley simplehttp://www.focuser.com/anodize.html Its possible to do at home, but is better suited to small parts - these moldings are big. Im sure some chromers would do anodizing too.

I found out when I tried to get a set re-done for a customer. My chrome guy doesn't do the anodizing part. He gave me the name of the place to take them. They stripped the anodizing, then I took them back to my chrome guy and he polishing them up real nice, then back to the anodizer for clear coating.

ScottH,are you saying that you skipped the anodizing part and simply had them clear-coated? I have heard that someone actually stripped the anodize, sanding it nice and flat, and then clear coat (skipped anodize)...
