I've had a complete Pony interior waiting for me to make a decision sitting in my garage. I've been debating on either just doing it or waiting till I can get the body work done then do the interior.

One thing I hate most about working on my car is not being able to drive it. I much prefer driving the Mustang than anything we own.

So...

Today, I took the generic package tray that I picked up from NPD the other day down to a local stereo shop and had them build me a custom tray. It's got raised and angled sections that the speakers will sit in and it's coverd in what they called trunk material. It's basicaly black felt more less. It's not suppose to fade and be weather resistant. It looks outstanding.

So, with that done, I've decided to just gut the interior and do it now. I can't realy afford all the body work done right now and I already have the interior package just waiting to be installed.

Tomorrow I start the gutting process. I'll try to get some before and after pics. I took some pics at the GA. swap meet, but for some reason I can't get them resized to post. I'll work on my editing skills some and see if I can get them up.

I'll be repainting what I can and replacing the front kick panels with a fiberglass set that has speakers in them.

Anywho - just thought I'd share my latest project. I am anxious to see what the floors look like *cringe* I have a feeling I'll be testing my welding skills.

Cheers.

I totally understand what you are talking about. I have purposedly not bought any interior stuff. I hate the interior but I don't want to do it until I have the body done. Just don't seem right to do it. I did install the stero and will be upgrading it this winter but i won't touch the headliner, carpet, seats, etc until I can do the body. I hope it will push me to get it done sooner. Just what I hope will happen. You never know when I will change my mind.

Richard.

getting ready to do mine......I'm going to gut it then send the shell to the body shop.......that way any overspray (from spraying the dash) won't get on the new stuff..........also......from past experience......I'll bet I can STILL find dust in my car from all the sanding, etc......

my .02......just throw some seat covers on it until you can do the body work.......and do the ENGINE/drivetrain work before the body.....(nothing worse than dropping a wrench on fresh paint *smile*

I was able to do everything mechanical wise first. Engine was a 01' build and had at the very most 10k miles on it.

Trans is fresh with less than 2-3k miles.

Suspension complete - less the spindles and steering gear box.

New brakes on all 4 corners. New set of Craiger SS's with new meat to cover them.

The only thing I need to do now is pull the motor and detail the engine bay. That's a pretty simple job. Much easier than the interior, IMO.

I am doing the interior because I don't have the money to do the body work right now. I'm looking at about 1500.00 in panels and probably about 5k for someone to finish getting them to lign up and block / spray the car. I just don't have that kinda cabbage before the hollidays.

I have all the interior just sitting in boxes in my garage. I knew I was going to need floor pans so I kinda put it off until I was going to do the body work but I just can't wait now.

I did gut the interior today. I was kinda anxious to see what I would find once I lifted the carpet and sound deadner. ( to which, whoever did it before glued the whole friggin thing to the pans. I've got a full day of wire brushing to prep ).

To my surprise, there was only 3 spots the floors were completely thru and those were only about 6" long. I was expecting it to be totaly gona. I called NPD and will be there in the morning to get the floor pans. I got full length sections so I can just cut what I need instead of buying the smaller single sections and it not fitting right.

I took the seat frames to a local shop here that is sand blasting them. They're still in good working condition, they just need to be freshend up.

I purchased the sport seat foam and pony interior package from NPD when I ordered the interior stuff. I can't wait to see it come together. It should look outstanding.

I also will pick up a Por -15 kit. I've never used this product before. Is there anything special I need to know? any tricks or such that someone can shed some light on?

I intend on coating the floor and trunk area with it to stop any other rust and use as a base before I pad then carpet. It appears to just be a 3 step process, it can't be all that difficult.

Anyway, I took some pictures and have them on my computer. For whatever reason when I go to resize them, it changes the .jpg format into some stupid format that can't be read.

Can anyone recommend a free image editor that can resize and keep the same .jpg or gif format?

Cheers.

If you want to shrink a JPG almost any program can do that.

For example, every computer with windows comes with "Paint", in the programs/accessories folder

Open the file you want to shrink.

Go the "image" pull down menu
Select Stretch/Skew

You'll see a box that has some stretch numbers (%) and some skew numbers. Leave the skew numbers alone, and just type in a percentage you want to shrink the photo by. if you took the image at 3 or 4 megapixels youll probably want to shrink it to about 30 or 40% to make a reasonable web image.

Hey presto, click "save as" in the file pulldown and name it something and you are done.

As my skills in photography get better, I bring you some pictures of the tear down. I only took a couple as my friend and I were busting tail to get one side done inbetween rain storms ( we were working under the carport as his 36' Buick was in the garage out of the rain.)

I'll get a few more as we go along and some good ones of the finished project, including interior installed.

Anywho - here we go.

Before we started ripping into the Drivers side.

My good friend helping mark spot welds to be drilled out.

And finaly me doing some final grind prep.
