Could it be different tire sizes?

But At least when I had my landrover the owners manual was very clear NOT to run in 4x4 while on dry pavement. I forgot to unluck the front hubs one time and after about 30 mins of highway driving the front diff blew.

if you have equal tire sizes then it its concievable that you have a PO that put different ratio in the back and always ran in 2wd.

Its easy to tell, jack it up, put it in neutral and turn the tires - counting revolutions of the driveshafts

More to the point you might have more expertise if you post in the truck forum...

First of all, Welcome to M&M, if you haven't been greeted.

Secondly, you might want to post this on the truck portion of the site and see what those folks can help with.

Great site with many, many good folks.
