Hye, y'all. I looked real quick for this on the board and didn't see anything that descirbe my noise exactly.
Anyhow, I've got this little tinkling/rattling noise that seemes to be coming from my clutch. Not a squeal or high-pitched at all. Hard to tell exactly but it sounds like it's coming from the bell-housing. It rises and falls with the engine RPMs, though. Seems a little worse with the clutch engaged. But the clutch movement and gears seems to have no effect on it. Only RPMs. It's as dead-on as a tachometer, this sound.
First thought was pilot or release bearing. But I looked in my old '68 shop manual and there was a section in the book that talked about engine noises being transmitted through the bell-housing/clutch, and it recommended adjusting the clutch to give a little more play in the pedal at the bottom. Haven't done this yet, but was wondering if any of you had some experience with this particular racket.
Thanks!

Check your return spring to make sure it did not break or come unhooked.

Return springs are still in place. Haven't really inspected them, though. I suppose they could have slipped or moved and be laying up against something to make that noise. Thanks for the tip, 266! I'll check that out tonight.

Any new parts? My new clutch rattled at first when depressed but the sound quickly went away and never returned.

I replaced the clutch back in the spring, and it was fine all summer and fall. This just started about a week ago.
And sometimes it will just stop for a minute or two, then start again. Crazy. I guess I just need to get uner there and lay hands on stuff. The only thing is, it doesn't do it at idle. I have to rev it a little to hear it. But I can hear it plain as day going up through the gears. At speed, though, it goes away (or either gets too fast to hear). At first I thought it was just rattling in my dash. But I crawled all over the place yesterday and feel 99% sure it's from the bell-housing area. I suppose if I can't find it, I'll just keep driving it until it gets unbearble. Or breaks down...
