Any one have an opinion on what oil i should be using in my 466?

I have been using Vavoline 20/50 Racing, but, is ther a better oil suited for a Methanol engine?

Thanks,

Ed, once upon a time Kendall GT1 was the schizznet to have with alky. Now the GT1 is owned by someone else & I'm told it is different. The VR is very good oil for racing in that it has a higher zinc content than the regular oils. Also diesel oils such as Rotella, Delo also have a zinc content that aids in protection of metal against metal. Enviromental regs have removed most if not all zinc from oils designated for gas engines. I use Delo 15W40 in my alky fed 460.

Synthetics are good some say because the syn. encapsulates the alky leaving the oil on the outside, whereas the dino oils are encapsulated by the alky. Cant prove it by me. I just cant talk myself into believing that the gains justify the cost of syn. in a race engine as often as it needs to be changed/inspected.

Glen and I use Delo 15W40 in our gas motors too. Works great and the engines seem to like it.

I used to run Royal Purple #11 when my motor was on alchy. But my clearances were set up for the lightweight oil. What I liked about it was once the motor sat overnight, I could loosen the drain plug and let the water/alchy out. I more than doubled the legnth of time between oil changes by doing that.

I run Royal Purple Racing 41 in my dragster. Love it, but at $10qt it's eating a hole in my wallet.

Anybody ever try Schaffer Oil? I know alot of the round track guys around here use it. Also know of someone who had a sample to be checked and it checked out very good. Their full synthetic runs about $5/qt. Their conventional "Micron Moly" oil is supposed to work very well with methanol as well. Buddy of mine is going to test some this weekend in his Top Sportsman type Mustang with a 572 BBF/Hilborn injection.

We have always recommended the RP #41 for alky use.
Good for about 40-50 passes.
