Not sure if this is where to post this. What are the physical differences in a 2.3 Mustang k-member and a 5.0 k-member. Can the 2.3 be modified to accept the v-8 ? Car in question is a 91 Mustang LX. I want to swap 2.3 for a 351w. I know it would be easier to use an existing 5.0 body but this one is free.
Any info appreciated.
Thanks, Darrel

Yes, they are the same. I've built a number of 2.3 Mustangs into 5.0 cars. V8 mounts bolt right in. I always like to upgrade the brakes & spindles, struts, and sway bars too.

I believe that even the 3.8 V6 K member is also the same. The only oddball was the 3.3L, 200 cid inline 6 cylinder, which has the motor mount brackets stickinhg foreward much further. The V8 mounts will fit directly into your 4 cyl. K memeber.

Thanks guys. Can anyone think of any other issues I'll have ?? 2.3 out and 351w in. I'll be eliminating all computer controlled crap making this a carbed with points setup. Will a c4 fit in this ? Will I have to change the driveshaft ?
Thanks, Darrel

I've got a 80 capri with a 351w.. Bought it with the 2.3L.. Had no problems with anything.. I originally had a c-4 in it so I would think the driveshaft should be fine as long as your not building the motor up a bunch!! Only thing you gotta worry about is you gotta get a windsor pan for a fox body and 5.0L mounts. Also might look into a cowl hood.

I've used a late 70's/early 80's 351W LTD pan in a fox swap. Worked for me.

The overall swap doesn't sound that difficult. The 351w I'm using is pretty mild. I'll save the 393 for a late model TBird or Cougar. This Stang is 85 miles from me right now, does anyone know what to expect for a rear-end ? 8.8 or a 7.5 ? And gears ? Also, I know the hatch is bad and possibly the doors, any leads on a good supplier for these parts ?
Thanks, Darrel

You'll have a 7.5" and anywhere from 3.00 to 3.55 gears depending on trans. Rear brakes are the same size as 5.0 cars.

If it's a 7.5 will it hold up to the engine I want to use ? Or should I change it out to an 8.8 ?

How long the 7.5 lasts depends on your tires. If they hook up, say good-bye.

The fox swaps are easy. If you want to build that car; just start the project and it will fall together. My 84 t-bird was easy and all with stock parts from the wrecker.
