I found a couple 67 or 68 cougars today and one of them had trim removed that you could tell had said cougar 500 Possibly an R code dealer special mentioned in another post. Another was a 69 or 70 convertible that still had good trim around where the ragtop meets the body in the back. I didn't know what codes were what so i am going back to the yard tommprow.

yes i got the vin number and ordered a marti report I also had a friend get me the name and address of last owner as well as the last title #. The car definatly had the "cougar 500" emblems with a flag as has been described but according to the fender it was a 289 car not an R code so will see what marti says.

is it a 67 or a 68? i think the 67 base was a 289 with the 68 base being a 302. There were no 428 CJs in 67.

I met with the last titled owner today. He is going to try to find the title but is willing to file for a lost title if I pay for it. He did confirm it was a white car and marti reports there were 54 cougar 500's made and not all were 428cj like it had been reported. I should get my marti report this week and if it is confirmed a 500 I will start looking for people who could afford to restore it and give me a finders fee as well

Didn’t know that the C was used in the 68 Cougar. I’ve only seen F, S and Ws but then again I don’t see many in my area.I forgot J and R also! [This message has been edited by 68 S-code GT (edited 03-24-2006).]
