I;m finally springing for a set of al. heads for my 327 based 302.
I;ve heard some good things about some new varieties of aluminum heads but keep coming back to the AFR 165;s-185;s.
Just read an article on a new addtion to the aluminum head market but, i can;t find the article, they said they were comparible to AFR's but almost half the cost, anyone know who makes em or other suggestions?

I guse with a custom ground crank and different bore size, you could have almost any displacement you want,to an extent.

Yea, its a bit weird but thats how it works out with this offset welding process & this crank.
Heads, I want to buy em in the next couple of days so, what about the Ford Aluminum GT-40x heads compared to the AFR's?
The fords work out to a little less money here in Canada, the AFR's being close to 2K.
the GT-40X;s are readily avail. here, whereas the AFR's have to be shipped.
But, i want to make the right choice
Engine - 302 based stroker, roller rockers, AFR or Gt-40X heads
Tranny - C-4/Gear Vendors
Rear - 3:73;s trac-lok.
Car - F;lane just under 3,000 pounds.
I;m looking at roller cams too, so feel free to make suggestions.
No power anything, 4 wheel manual disc brakes.
thanks in advance
Weekend street use.

My vote goes to the AFR's. I have the 185's on my 289 and They've been great so far. The other heads I would look at are the Twisted Wedge heads. I cound't go that way as my bottom end was already done and they require special pistons.

I just needed a nudge to go for the AFR 165;s or 185;s. I was sold on the 165;s but,i;m thinking maybe step up to the 185;s or are they overkill for a little 331?
Running a Weiand Stealth dual plane.650 Grant street carb.
Haven;t decided which roller cam yet to retro fit.I stil lok at cam specs. & kind of glaze over looking at choices.
How bout this: 220/224 at .496 lift on 110.

I run the 185's on my 289 so I would think they'd be great for a 331. I run a solid flat cam from Isky (don't remember the specs off hand) that's good to 7K. I'd say go for the 185's for sure.

How would the Comp 270 be for a street 331?
No power anything,
The cam tech. asked me my cruising rpm.
i don;t know if i tell him cruise in 3rd over which is 70mph @ 2000rpm)
0r 3rd.(1:1 -70mph @ 2900rpm)
I;ve keep reading about overcamming but with alum. Heads/hooker super comps,3:73;s.
Would like to do a cam change once, you know?

I think the 270 is a bit small but that really depends more on the stall if your running an Auto. Also what kind of idle your looking for. If your not running much stall the 270 may be good. I have a 3000+ converter for mine and the cam is in the 290@.050 range and .550 lift. Mine runs really nice down the freeway @ appx 2500rpm.

I guess I'm in the catagory of over camming. I like a rough idle and so far havn't been disappointed with my cam choices except maybe not going big enough. Cam choice is always a tough one because everone tells you not to go too big. I seem to err to the big end of the spectrum and have been happy. But then again I don't drive mine daily, so that may be why.

With 331 CID and 185's the motor will support a pretty healthy cam. You just need a properly sized converter to match. A big cam and a tight converter are no fun.
