Any of you with early F;lanes knows the fuse box is on the headlight switch & a nightmare to change fuses, limited or no location for 'extras" like elect. fans, etc.
So, can i simply find the main power wire that goes to the headlight switch & revert it to an auxilary 6-8 fuse panel.
Then run power back to the stock needs that were on the H.light switch & have additional points for other needs but in a better location on a real panel. Say, an 8 fuse painless panel mounted.
The H;light switch would be just that, a h.light switch only.
I know i;ve asked this before, short memory.

Roger

why not leave the exsisting fuse panel on the headlight switch and add a aux. fuse panel under the dash for any electrial add-ons you install. Run a seperate wire from main power or ignition power..

I thought the main power line went to headlight switch first, then it supplied power to the one side of fuese for heater, headlights, radio, signals, etc, etc.
so, i thought if i found that main wire & put it to an aux. panel & diverted everything off the headlight switch to it, i;d be able to get a fuese easily & have a bunch more space for add ons.
the headlight switch would not be a fuse holder anymore, just a headlight switch

I run a #8 wire from the battery terminal on the solenoid and another from the ignition switch to a small fuse panel that the accessories run off. This gives a choice of always hot or keyed. I like the fan to work while the ignition is off but not the fuel pump.

Good idea, but i really want to do away with the whole light switch/fuse panel.
i bought a kit for Mad electronics to run headlight relays, wire my CS alt. correctly & make my hot lead from trunk battery only hot when you crank it over.
thanks

I feel your pain.... I'm trying to figure that out right now. definately not one of fords "better ideas"

is there another car from around the same year that does not have an integeral fusebox on the lightswitch that looks close enough to the fairlane one to pass as "stock"... something like a galaxy or falcon or comet or did they all have the same setup from those years?

Found a 65 Galaxie that does use a small panel seperate from the horendous light/fuse switch so i may use this & run the main power line from the old light switch to it.
But, a small painless panel is probably better as you get a small wiring harness marked with all accessory wires to it.
